You will be an important team member responsible for performing project inspection coordination and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QAQC) activities on a project level staff position. You will provide technical direction, perform duties of a discipline lead and or interface with other disciplines in accordance with departmental standard. You will also be required to develop project quality plans (PQP), inspection plans, budgets, and client interface and provide supervision and guidance to the project and discipline inspectors.

* Participate in system, sub-system or equipment Criticality Assessments

* Review requisitions submitted by engineering for technical integrity and quality requirements, including but not limited to:


* Applicable specifications

* Criticality level
* Ensure Purchase Order Quality Requirements (POQR) are clearly established and reflect the system, sub-system or equipment Criticality Level utilizing the appropriate POQR form

* Perform Supplier Capability Surveys as required

* Review with Project Management levels of inspection required for the materials and equipment to be purchased on the project
Prepare budget and manpower accordingly to cover inspection requirements.

* Review with Engineering the level of Inspection required for specific materials and equipment

* Review Purchase Orders, Drawings and Specifications to confirm the requirements and level of inspection required for each item in the Purchase Order

* Attend pre award meetings where necessary

* Attend Inspection Requirement Meetings at the supplier to review all requirements for major pieces of equipment prior to commencing work. Frequency, levels of inspection and hold points required shall be reviewed with the supplier prior to the manufacturing / fabrication process

* Conduct periodic shop visits as may be necessary to resolve issues identified by shop inspectors

* Facilitate resolution of quality issues occurring in the suppliers shop, or, following delivery to the project construction site by working with applicable engineer, supplier, project manager and client where necessary

* Ensure non-conformances are appropriately addressed in compliance with CH2MHILL and client requirements

* Writing concise technical reports to confirm compliance or, to describe non compliance and proposed methods of resolution

* Provide release inspection to confirm the materials and / or equipment have been manufactured / fabricated in accordance with the requirements of the Purchase Order.

* Develop Project Quality Plans (PQP)

* Monitor overall project quality

* Verify compliance with Enterprise, Business Group (BG), and client requirements through audits and assessments

* Maintain relationships with client and key suppliers to ensure effective Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QAQC)

* Are accountable to the Regional Quality Manager for:


* Compliance with company policies and procedures relating to Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QAQC) and source inspection

* Timeliness, accuracy and adequacy of materials and / or equipment being manufactured

* Fulfillment of quality requirements

* Effective and timely management of quality issues relating to materials and / or equipment specified on a Purchase Order

* Maintaining effectiveness of relationships with suppliers and project team members

* Timeliness, accuracy and adequacy of problem identification, status reporting and corrective action.

* Conduct field investigations, produce clear field reports with detailed sketches, written and verbal instructions

The Challenge? Help to meet the ever increasing Global demand for Energy. Our Principal Piping Designerposition will offer you an exciting opportunity to help our Clients provide a safe and reliable source of Energy to heat homes, fuel automobiles, and move goods and services in support of millions of people. Each day you will be part of a professional team that provides design services to our Clients on the North Slope and beyond. You must exhibit strong design, drafting and computer skills and must also be capable of estimating, statusing and scope development for projects.
Our Principal Piping Designer:

* Independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard design techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications on medium complexity projects

* Develop Process Flow Diagrams and P&amp;IDs for various projects, complying with client drawing standards and accepted industry practices

* Produce medium to complex piping and equipment layouts

* Uses judgment and experience in making adaptations and modications on Greenfield and/or Brownfield projects

* Conducts field investigations, produces clear field reports with detailed sketches, photos, written and verbal instructions

* Develops detailed design elements using information from various sources which may include site studies, vendor drawings, catalog data, engineering sketches, written and verbal instructions

* Reviews and checks design drawings and vendor shop drawings

* Participates in design coordination with engineers, provides technical guidance and is able to effectively complete a project through all of its phases, conceptual through close-out

* Coordinates design information with other disciplines in the development of complete drawing packages

* Assists department supervisor in various department planning tasks as required

* Takes an active role in Total Quality Management and Continuous Improvement initiatives

* Performs project related tasks such as scope development, scheduling and job status reporting as required

* Attends and participates in departmental and project meetings

* Takes the lead, coordinates, reviews and checks the work of designers, drafters and technicians

* High School Diploma or GED is required

* Minimum of 12 years of experience in piping design/drafting without Associate's Degree

* In-depth working knowledge and application of piping discipline with specific skills including codes, standards and design theory

* Excellent computer skills including practical knowledge of CADD software, MS Word, Excel, Outlook

* Strong written, verbal and analytical skills

* Strong leadership and interpersonal skills

* Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines

* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

* Ability to mentor less experienced Designers in Piping Design theory and layoutIn addition to the basic qualification, the ideal candidate will also possess the following preferred qualifications:


* Refinery and North Slope experiences

* Familiarity with CPAI North Slope procedures and documentation criteria

* Ability to check complex, difficult piping layouts and HVAC designs

* Proficiency with AutoCAD, Raster Design, Bentley V8i and ProjectWise
