Support Engineering, Infrastructure, and Environmental Consulting as a Wetland Scientist and have a hand in transforming tomorrow
As a wetland scientist based in our Denver office, you will be providing technical support as a field ecologist and resource specialist in field biology, regulatory compliance, NEPA documentation, and permitting. Working independently or with other members of our team, you will perform both field and office work supporting transportation, water, and energy projects. In this position, you will serve as a key team member, building upon your technical expertise in vegetation, wetland, and regulatory permitting. We are seeking someone with 3 to 5 years’ total experience in the Intermountain West and Great Plains and specific expertise with wetland delineation, sensitive species habitat assessments, and routine environmental permitting in Colorado or Nebraska.You will provide technical support to Project Managers, senior ecologists, and planners as an ecological task lead for infrastructure and energy projects by efficiently conducting ecological field surveys, environmental regulatory compliance, and developing NEPA documentation and environmental permitting. Specifically, your expertise should consist of strong wetland, vegetation, and sensitive species technical background and a solid understanding of, and experience with, regulatory permitting. You will be leveraging your experience as a technical field lead for specific natural resource surveysand be the author or contributor to wetland delineation reports, NEPA environmental documentation evaluations, and environmental permit applications. You will be expected to maintain quality control of self-produced deliverables that are accurate and well-organized prior to senior review. You will also be involved in environmental permitting in the western United States, including: USACE 404 wetland, ESA Section 7, Colorado 401, NEPA, and other environmental permitting. The minimum qualifications for this position are:
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or closely related discipline.
Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible environmental consulting experience and a desire to continue in the environmental consulting field.
Wetland Delineation Certification and a minimum of 2 years’ experience leading wetland delineation surveys in Western ecosystems.
Two years of specific experience within Colorado and Nebraska.
Experience leading and/or serving on teams of field ecologists conducting ecological evaluations, and habitat assessments to inform the planning phases of primarily linear projects. Proven ability to manage logistics and field staff regarding field mobilization and data collection.
Accurate Western regional plant identification skills and experience using a dichotomous key.
A minimum of 1 year of experience with environmental permitting of facilities and/or infrastructure: USACE 404, Section 401, ESA Section 7, state/local permitting, and/or other environmental permitting as required.
Proficiency in Microsoft® Word®, Excel®, Powerpoint®, and Adobe® Professional® and using field equipment such as Global Positioning Systems and tablets.
Ability to travel and work in the field for long periods of time.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
Masters degree in a natural resource specialty.
Five years of progressively responsible consulting ecology work history.
Experience with ESRI® ArcGIS 10.0®or higher.
Established relationships with regulatory agencies.
Experience working within engineering design teams.
Ability to understand civil construction drawings and documents.
This position requires strong skills as a self-starter, with ability to balance work on multiple projects simultaneously.
This individual must be able to work independently and effectively within a diverse project team.
Good time management skills and proven experience in scheduling field work and reporting to complete tasks within deadlines and on budget is essential.
Good communication skills (both written and verbal) and organizational skills.
