This position completes a variety of non-routine technical assignments independently which include the repair for all equipment control circuits, electronic and pneumatic systems, telemetry systems, signal devices, legacy radio equipment, and calibration of flow meters, ultrasonic level transmitters, gas sensors, etc., in a wastewater treatment facility.

Roughly 50% of this position will include Instrumentation and Controls duties, 40% graphic user interface (GUI) customization, 5% programming and 5% with radio network and equipment.

The incumbent has deep knowledge of procedures and technical concepts within own area, and understands regulations and standards for own area. He/she evaluates and resolves problems by reviewing multiple sources of information and drawing conclusions.

This role assists less experienced team members in using technology. Performs the inspection, maintenance and repair for all equipment control circuits including electrical, electronic and pneumatic systems and telemetry systems and signal devices.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Networking when a new PLC is deployed and completing appropriate documentation

  • Customization of GUI, ladder logic programming for pump stations that communicate with SCADA system

  • Moving to a new network with new screen resolutions

  • Understanding of IP networking, including bridging and routing

  • Interprets and works from blueprints, drawings, sketches, plans and technical documents

  • Performs the calibration and repair of all flow metering devices

  • Recommends control system modifications with documented justification that will result in standard utilization of parts and materials and will reduce operating and repair costs

  • Establishes and maintains scheduled control system maintenance and calibration programs for plant equipment

  • Follows oral and written instructions

  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationship with those contacted during the course of work

  • Performs other duties as required

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

The work area can involve a working environment indoors as well as outdoors, which could cause exposure to outdoor elements; proper environmental attire will be required. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights (able to climb water tanks/towers) and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, pathogens and various chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.

Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to work on equipment, have vision sufficient to read blueprints; have hearing in the normal range with or without correction; be able to climb high elevations. In an 8-hour shift must be able to transport self across the facility, ascend and descend stair steps, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height, climb and work off of a ladder or scaffold; use arms and back to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts; carry a 50 pound tool box up a flight of stairs; work in confined spaces and wear and use appropriate safety equipment.

The minimum qualifications for this position are:

  • One to two (1-2) years of instrumentation and control experience or an Associates degree in a related field in lieu of experience

  • Must obtain Arkansas Wastewater Treatment Operator Level 1 certification within two (2) years from date of hire

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED

  • Possess a valid driver's license and the ability to be covered by CH2M's auto insurer

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • One (1) year of instrumentation and controls experience in a water/wastewater facility, or other industrial facility

  • One (1) year of Narrow Band two way radio maintenance

  • Documented experience demonstrating customization experience of graphic user interface (GUI) systems

  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment and instruments used in the maintenance, repair and calibration of electrical and electronic control systems in a water/wastewater or similar working environment

  • Knowledge of the principle and practices of an effective control system preventive maintenance program, safe work practices, and related state and federal laws and regulations
