CH2M Land Development Inspector, Stonecrest, GA in Lithonia, Georgia
CH2M is seeking a full-time Land Development Inspector to join our team in Stonecrest, GA.
The position serves as the City’s soil and erosion inspector and is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance with all local, State and Federal standards and regulations during inspections of development sites and enforces codes/ordinances governing soil erosion and sedimentation control. The inspector interprets, applies, and ensures compliance with related codes/ordinances, approved construction plans/permits, and other applicable federal, state, and local codes, laws, rules, regulations, specifications, standards, policies and procedures; researches code-related issues as needed; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations; Reads and interprets plans, land development plans, blueprints, permits, or related documents; reviews approved plans prior to inspections. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Conduct field inspections of road construction and utility infrastructure regarding erosion and sediment control, grading, clearing, drainage, landscaping, infrastructure, wetlands and stream buffers. • Perform land development plan review to ensure compliance with all city, county and state environmental codes and regulations. • Conduct a variety of testing procedures relative to the inspection process. • Ensure full compliance with permit conditions, approve construction plan/specifications, contract requirements, applicable codes and standards for city, state and federal regulations. • Determine the nature of potential violations; issue citations and provide the court with documentation and testimony as required. • Must be eligible to be a sworn city official with ability to issue city citations • Interact and communicate with agencies, staff and individuals on various inspection related topics; provide interpretation and assistance with code definitions; respond to reports of alleged ordinance or code violations and drainage issues; advise the appropriate parties on erosion control requirements; and conduct meetings with supervisors on current projects. • Represent the department at meetings and hearings to provide other agencies or the public with information concerning environmental requirements. • Work with other city departments and agencies to resolve issues.
The minimum qualifications for this position are:• High School diploma or GED required • 3 plus years of experience and/or training involving soil erosion and sedimentation control, construction site inspection, and construction plan interpretation; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities • Must possess a valid Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) Level I B Certification • Must possess a valid Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) Level II Plan Reviewer Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days • Proficiency with MS Office computer applications • Must possess a valid state driver’s license
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree • Experience and understanding of civil engineering, standard construction practices, material, methods and codes • Experience and understanding of soils and plant types and ability to assess both soil and site conditions to determine whether an activity is environmentally suitable for the proposed location • Knowledge of land development and environmental planning • Requires a thorough knowledge of physical, chemical and biological properties of soils and must possess the ability to assess disturbed soils • Arborist certification
