As a member of our consultant team, this Transit Vehicle Electrical Engineer will provide senior engineering support for the procurement of new or overhauled transit vehicles and projects involving reliability improvement or product upgrades. You may also provide project management support, in a project manager or deputy project manager role, as work efforts are identified and responsibilities are delegated. You may also be involved with field efforts for incoming and departure inspections, assessment of vehicle conditions and will provide assistance with technical specification development. Various tasks, responsibilities and contributions:

  • Role will include systems engineering and project management support of procurements for new and/or overhauled transit vehicles

  • Responsible for resolving design and system integration issues on transit vehicle projects

  • Perform oversight of team member vehicle inspection activities and other support staff

  • Engineer will support both office and field based activities, including technology assessments, writing technical specifications, evaluating vendors, performing design reviews, troubleshooting and problem resolution, testing support, and failure investigations

  • Track project status and prepare periodic project progress reports

  • Prepare cost estimates, development of work scopes for new project work, and other related efforts

  • Provide Engineering support in preparation of technical specifications for functional/ sub system/ testing/ maintenance & training requirements for vehicle or subsystem procurements or overhauls

  • Perform technical reviews of vehicle and subsystem design for transit fleets, analyze requirements, and prepare review comments for disposition of Contract Deliverables

  • Support System integration of vehicle subsystems and complete vehicles from different suppliers for compatibility and functional performance

  • Assess performance and specification compliance for vehicles and subsystems

The minimum qualifications for this position are:

  • BS Electrical Engineering

  • 8-15 years total experience

  • 7+ years in system engineering and/or maintenance

  • 5+ years in project management with some leadership responsibilities / experience (e.g., lead engineering)

  • Knowledge of transit vehicle industry standards and practices

  • Good communications skills, detail oriented and ability to work independently are essential

  • Strong capability with Microsoft Excel for use in generation of internal and client reports

  • Strong experience with project planning, scheduling and progress reporting

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • MS Electrical Engineering or advance degree preferred

  • PE Electrical Engineering preferred
