Our Transportation Environmental Planner/Scientist career path is your opportunity to work on exciting and engaging large-scale infrastructure projects.
You will participate in the development of planning studies, NEPA environmental documents, and permitting processes for a variety of transportation related projects in Virginia and other parts of the mid-Atlantic region. You will be responsible for providing support on various environmental planning studies, wetland studies, ecological studies, and NEPA documentation for local, state, federal clients primarily in Virginia. You will be responsible for task management, document preparation, stakeholder coordination, managing the writing and review of technical sections, permit applications, public presentations, will work closely with the engineering team in the development of alternatives, and will interface with clients and participate in developing business for CH2M’s environmental planning practice in Virginia. You should have 8-12 years environmental planning work experience, which includes corridor and planning studies, with a relevant BS/BA degree, excellent writing skills and a working knowledge of NEPA requirements for transportation projects. Significant contributions to client relationship efforts and public understanding are expected.
The minimum qualifications for this position are:Basic Qualifications: • Related BS/BA degree • 8-12 years environmental planning work experience, ideally including corridor and planning studies for state Departments of Transportation. • Working knowledge of NEPA and permitting requirements for transportation projects • Experience with compilation of various NEPA documents for multi-disciplinary projects. • Must have experience with environmental permitting processes and agency permit applications including but not limited to wetland/waterway permitting and the Endangered Species Act (federal and state) • Conduct delineations of waters of the U.S. (including wetlands) in accordance with current regulatory requirements and guidelines, prepare supporting documentation, and conduct JDs • Conduct environmental compliance inspections on active construction projects and experience with Erosion and Sediment Control Practices. • Conduct stream, wetland, and wildlife habitat assessments. Monitor wetland and stream projects • Working knowledge of GPS, ArcGIS, and Microsoft office for project data collection, analysis, and reporting • Possess strong oral and written communication skills for significant interaction with senior management, staff, and other internal and external parties. • Ability to travel and conduct field work • Demonstrate environmental writing and communication skills
