Performs a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant including maintenance of equipment, quality control/testing and day-to-day activities on an assigned shift.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs any combinations of tasks pertinent to con¬trolling operations of the water treatment plant
Operates, performs minor repairs, and maintains the wastewater treat¬ment plant facility, and diagnoses operating problems and performs necessary corrective action
Operates pumps, engines, and generators to control and adjust flow and processing of wastewater, sludge, and effluent
Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels
Observes variations in operating conditions and inter¬prets meter and gauge readings and test results to determine process or flow adjustment requirements
Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control
Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge read¬ings as required
Takes samples and performs laboratory tests and analyses
Performs routine mainte¬nance functions and custodial duties
Works safely and adheres to established safety procedures
Follows written and oral instructions
Ability to carry and respond to pages as requested by management
Ability and willingness to work on-call shifts, as requested, including being fit and able to respond to call-ins in a timely manner
Performs other duties as assigned
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
The work area can involve a working environment indoors as well as outdoors, which could cause exposure to outdoor elements; proper environmental attire will be provided. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, airborne particles, noxious gases, pathogens and various chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to work on equipment, have vision sufficient to read blueprints; have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8-hour shift must be able to transport self across the facility, ascend and descend stair steps, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height, climb and work off of a ladder or scaffold; use arms and back to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts; work in confined spaces and wear and use appropriate safety equipment.
The minimum qualifications for this position are:
Minimum of two (2) years' experience in operating water and/or wastewater treatment plants
New Mexico Level III certification in Wastewater
Valid driver's license and the ability to be covered by CH2M's auto insurer
High school diploma or equivalent GED
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
Possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL
Four years’ experience in operating water and/or wastewater treatment plants
Knowledge of the principles and practices of water treatment plant operations; operating principles of valves, pumps, and motors; principles and methods of arsenic removal and analyses; effects and problems of industrial waste in water treatment processes; safe work practices
Able to enter data into computer spreadsheets and data management systems
General knowledge of computer operations
