CH2M Wastewater Operator II - Rio Rancho, New Mexico in Rio Rancho, New Mexico

Performs a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant including maintenance of equipment, quality control/testing and day-to-day activities on an assigned shift.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operates, maintains, and performs minor repairs to a wastewater treat¬ment plant and/or conveyance system

  • Complies and reports non-compliance with project policies and procedures

  • Diagnoses operating problems and performs or directs necessary corrective actions

  • Reads gauges and meters, starts/stops equipment and operates valves to route and control flow, makes process control adjustments, determines and sets proper chemical dosages and flow rates, and operates Process Logic Controllers (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems

  • Collects samples and per¬forms laboratory tests and analyses on plant influent, effluent wastewater

  • Processes bio solids sludge in accordance with plant schedules and regulatory requirements

  • Enters data, prepares reports, and maintains re¬cords of plant operations

  • Inspects equipment to identify and perform needed mainte¬nance and repairs

  • Records and enters data into computers, makes entries into plant logs, and prepares a variety of written reports

  • May assists with conducting meetings, tailgates and training sessions pertaining to safety, process control, etc.

  • May assist in the interviewing of prospective employees, conduct employee training, and/or direct the routine work assignments of operators

  • Works safely and adheres to established safety procedures

  • Follows written and oral instructions.

  • Ability to carry and respond to pages as requested by management

  • Ability and willingness to work on-call shifts, as requested, including being fit and able to respond to call-ins in a timely manner

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

The work area can involve a working environment indoors as well as outdoors, which could cause exposure to outdoor elements; proper environmental attire will be provided. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, airborne particles, noxious gases, pathogens and various chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.

Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to work on equipment, have vision sufficient to read blueprints; have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8-hour shift must be able to transport self across the facility, ascend and descend stair steps, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height, climb and work off of a ladder or scaffold; use arms and back to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts; work in confined spaces and wear and use appropriate safety equipment.

The minimum qualifications for this position are:

  • New Mexico Level IV certification in Wastewater

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in operating water and/or wastewater plants

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to be insured by CH2M's auto insurer

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL

  • State of New Mexico drivers license

  • Five (5) years of experience in operating water/wastewater plants

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of wastewater treatment plants and conveyance system operations, including the operation of all relevant processes, systems and equipment.

  • A working knowledge of safety, safe work practices, and training.

  • Knowledgeable in computer operations; able to develop spreadsheets and word processing documents, enter information into data management systems, and operate plant PLCs and SCADA systems

Candidates must successfully complete all required pre-employment requirements including physical, drug screen and background check
