As the Wastewater Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Area Manager in Gilroy, CA you will provide business leadership through direct supervision of staff and project delivery, and be responsible for the business operations, day to day operations of the treatment plant performance, contract administration, accurate operational records and prepare reports required by the client, all regulatory agencies, and senior manager. Working with other members of our team you will supervise the development and administration of various project financial plans and budgets and participate in relationship management with clients, teaming partners, key stakeholders and vendors. You will also have the opportunity to: develop, implement and administer ongoing processes, procedures and associated budget/timelines; provide guidance, training and evaluation of staff; participate in recruiting, motivating, and developing staff; prepare, consult, and/or review operations cost and staffing estimates; perform plant startups and operations consulting services; and perform project follow up reviews to determine client satisfaction with past service and develop recommendations on the need for future service. The minimum qualifications for this position are:• High school diploma or GED • Eight (8) years of experience in operation and maintenance of water/wastewater treatment plant facilities with increasing levels of responsibility • Five 5 plus years of experience working with and overseeing other supervisors is required • California Wastewater Grade 5 or sufficient experience and education to obtain within 1 year • Current or previous experience serving in a Plant Manager or equivalent leadership role • Experience as a customer service manager • Experience developing and working within an approved budget. Specifically tracking costs, adjusting activities to stay on budget, and optimizing labor and materials • Ability to prepare and make presentations • Ability to travel 30% to 50% of the time • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook • Valid driver’s license with no major infractions
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:• Four (4) year college degree • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and reporting. • Ability to operate SCADA systems and other computerized equipment • Capable of working independently and maintaining an orderly schedule • Understanding of the technical aspects of the facility to be managed • Demonstrated interpersonal relations and personnel management skills • Experience in managing multiple project locations • Excellent oral and written communications, self-motivation, team-oriented work practices, strong technical problem-solving skills
