The Mechanical Crew Lead provides daily direction and leadership to the CH2MHill mechanical trades, including; overhaul, central shops and HVAC technicians, as well as fin fan and diesel mechanics. Supervises and directs daily work, manages daily schedules and visits job sites to oversee work activities. Ensures that procedures are established and followed, and the safe work standards are understood and practiced.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Promote safe work practices and implement company and client safety policies for multiple crews, including proper hazard recognition and mitigation.

  • Continuously audit SETA cards for complete job hazard assessment and proper mitigation

  • Assure all incidents, injuries and problems are promptly reported to foreman and supervisors.

  • Provide supervision, direction and mentoring to multiple crews ensuring all crew members have the required skills and abilities to perform assigned job tasks safely and correctly.

  • Assign mentors and perform mentoring to new crew members and verify that mentoring process is followed, completed, and documented

  • ffectively communicate expectations to crew with respect to work execution, safety, procedures and efficiency.

  • Measure work progress, efficiency and effectiveness using various programs, including but not limited to Original Scope Impact (OSI) and Key Performance Indicators (KPI)

  • Encourage open communication from team members. Provide regular and timely feedback to individuals regarding performance.

  • Assure CoW compliance with all crews and participate / facilitate L2RAs.

  • Continually seek improvement in work processes

  • Attend and participate in planning meetings.

  • Perform regular shop, field and vehicle inspections

  • Develop and maintain an efficient and effective alternate relationship.

  • Attend technical, leadership and safety training.

  • Demonstrate support for the company's environmental management system.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient in computer software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, CMMS.

  • Knowledgeable in North Slope and CH2MHill operations and safety practices and policies, as well as specific knowledge of procedures and standards applicable to the mechanical crafts.

  • Ability to clearly communicate with crews, management and client representatives.

  • Ability to work as part of a team with supervisors, fellow workers and your alternate.

  • Knowledge of and ability to respond to audit requirements.

  • Excellent organizational and planning skills

  • Lift 40 lbs from floor to knuckles with one hand x 2 with a 12 second interval, Lift 40 lbs from floor to waist x 2 with a 12 second interval, Lift 40 lbs from floor to shoulders x 2 with a 12 second interval, Lift 40 lbs from floor to crown x 2 with a 12 second interval, Carry 40 lbs with two hands for 40 feet x 6 (Allow a 60 second rest break after each carry), Push horizontally at waist level – 100 lbs peak isometric force (not sustained) Pull horizontally at waist level – 100 lbs peak isometric force (not sustained) Climb stairs, 15 steps x 10 for a total of 150 steps. Self-paced (Allow a 60 second rest break after walking up and down every 50 steps),

  • Stair Climb and Carry: While carrying 40 lbs in one hand and holding onto a railing with the other hand for safety, climb up and down 15 steps x 5 for a total of 75 steps. Self-paced (Allow a 60 second rest break after walking up and down each set of 15 steps)

  • Slanted Ladder: Climb up and down 20 rungs x 3 for a total of 60 rungs. (Allow a 60 second rest period after climbing up and down 30 rungs)

  • Repetitive Kneeling Test: Perform from standing, kneel on one knee, alternate from left to right knee, x 10 each knee,

  • Repetitive Stoop Test: Perform from standing position, bend forward at waist as far as possible without bending the knees with hands reaching toward the floor x 10, self-paced, but continuous

  • Repetitive Squat Test: Perform a functional squat and stand x 10 o. Twist and Flex Test: Perform from standing alternate toe touches x 10 to each side to assess ability to twist and flex the trunk repetitively.

The minimum qualifications for this position are:

  • Three to four (3-4) years of maintenance mechanical experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

  • A valid driver’s license is required and ability to be covered by Jacob's auto insurer

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Two (2) years of fin fan (or water cooling towers or air cooled heat exchangers or rotating equipment) turbine, diesel and HVAC mechanical maintenance

  • Two (2) years North Slope arctic work experience

  • Two (2) years mechanical trade experience in the petrochemical industry -

  • One (1) year experience with computer software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and CMMS
