CH2M Tech II - Industrial Blanket Fabricator - Level 4 - Prudhoe Bay, Alaska in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska
Fabricates, installs and maintains various insulating blanket systems on pipe, valves, flanges vessels and other equipment.
Essential Job Functions:
Measures, fabricates, installs and maintains various insulating blanket systems with or without drawings
Properly use and maintain the tools and equipment commonly employed on an industrial job such as heavy duty industrial sewing machines, manual and pneumatic hog-ring pliers, and basic insulating tools
Performs fabrication or modification of insulating blankets/pads for special purposes such as for valves, piping, flanges, heaters, electrical equipment and rotating equipment
Fabricating or altering blankets to conform with drawings and specifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Proficiency in the basic skills of cutting, fitting and installing insulation and the components of insulating blankets
Ability to work with, but not limited to the following materials: Vinyl coated polyester, silicone impregnated fiberglass cloth, woven fiberglass cloth, Therma-loft batting, fiberglass batting, ceramic fiber batting, Denier fabric, Rip-stop nylon fabric
The skillset for this position is similar to that of a sail maker, upholsterer, industrial leather worker, etc.
Possesses a basic knowledge and understanding of the thermal properties of blanket materials
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications.
Ability to operate, and make minor adjustments on heavy duty industrial sewing machines
Ability to execute blanket tasks from start to finish, with little supervision.
Ability to work alone
Knowledge of piping, valves and other oil field equipment.
Ability to work in confined spaces
Ability to work at heights in excess of 100’ (e.g. from a manlift, catwalk, or scaffold)
Basic hand/power tool knowledge
Ability to operate light to medium duty vehicles (i.e. box van, flatbed, pickups)
Ability to read a tape measure
Ability to measure, layout on paper, then take those measurements and transfer them to fabric and begin fabrication. This also includes the ability to visualize the finished product
Ability to perform basic computer functions for:
Completion of online training
Certification as a Performing Authority
Ability to complete certification for, and to operate manlifts
Ability to pass a fit test and pulmonary function test, and to wear a full-face air purifying respirator

Must have ability to stand, walk on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, sit, squat, kneel, reach through low and high ranges and exhibit normal balance and coordination. These basic physical requirements are essential for safe performance of the job in harsh environments with exposure to very cold temperatures and while wearing arctic gear
Lift 40 lbs from floor to waist x 2 with a 12 second interval
Lift 10 lbs from floor to shoulders x 5 with 12 second intervals
Slanted Ladder: Climb up and down 10 rungs x 2 for a total of 20 rungs, self –paced but continuous
Stairs: Climb stairs up and down 13 steps per flight x 3 for a total of 39 steps, self-paced but continuous,
Repetitive Kneeling Test: Perform from standing, kneel on one knee, alternate from left to right knee, x 5 each knee
Repetitive Stoop Test: Perform from standing position, bend forward at waist as far as possible without bending the knees with hands reaching toward the floor x 5, self-paced, but continuous
Repetitive Squat Test: Perform a functional squat and stand x 5
Twist and Flex Test: Perform from standing alternate toe touches x 5 to each side to assess ability to twist and flex the trunk repetitively
The minimum qualifications for this position are:
Two (2) years of experience operating and maintaining heavy duty industrial sewing machines
Valid driver’s license including the ability to be covered by CH2M’s auto insurer
High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
